Book Review: Clockwork Angel

Frankly, I read this book last year end. Clockwork Angel is the first book of The Infernal Devices series written by Cassandra Clare. I absolutely love Cassandra Clare's books! She created a whole new world of Shadowhunters (Nephilim) that keeps readers from putting the book down. Yes, I'm a fan of Cassandra Clare. :D I rate this book a 4.5 stars out of 5.

A quick summary: The book is set in the Victorian era, where girls wore corsets and dresses. Our main character Tessa Gray arrives from America to London after receiving an invitation from her brother. She is taken by the Dark Sisters (warlocks) who trains and prepares her for her marriage with the Magister. Tessa, unknown to her before the Sisters, is a shapeshifter. Two months passes, Shadowhunter William Herondale (Will) saves her from the Sisters. Tessa is taken back to the Insititute where she is introduced to the world of Shadowhunters and Downworlders. With the Shadowhunters' help, she rescues her brother from the vampire De Quincey. However, it turns out that her brother works for the evil Magister. Tessa barely escapes from the Magister. Will is hiding something. He constantly pushes Tessa away and James Carstairs (Jem), Will's parabatai offers her comfort. The book ends with Will going to warlock Magnus Bane to ask for help.

I love this book, mainly because I fell in love with Will, Tessa and their love of books. Oh, not to mention, Cassandra is really good at writing characters that actually have character. Not dead and unrealistic ones but characters that actually have a life of their own. I love the humour in the book.

In the book, Will is described as a beautiful boy who is broken. He hides his past and pushes people away when he thinks they care about him. There's a certain air of mystery around him. The only things we know for certain in the book are: 1. He loves books 2. He loves Tessa 3. He cares for Jem like a brother. Will has a sarcastic humour that really appeals to me. He just makes people laugh. On the outside, he appears as if he couldn't care less (in fact, he can act like an asshole), however, that isn't the truth on the inside. Will tries his best to defend those that he love and for that, I say William Herondale is a really amazing person.

Tessa is a really brave girl who cares about her loved ones more that herself. We see this when she risks her life to rescue her brother from the cuffs in the De Quincey's house. I think Tessa has a really strong character. Think about it, a lone girl not older than 20 years arrives in a foreign land by herself, discovers her brother is in danger, finds out that she is anything but human and everyone around her isn't exactly human either. Most girls would freak but Tessa doesn't break down. She doesn't back down when things aren't smooth sailing for her. I really love her character and her mysterious background.

I LOVE WILL! okay sorry.

Cassandra Clare is a really great YA writer. You should definitely go read The Infernal Devices series consisting of Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince and Clockwork Princess (coming in 2013 March); and The Mortal Instruments Series consisting of City Of Bones, City Of Ashes, City Of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City Of Lost Souls <3 data-blogger-escaped-br="">
My favourite parts of the book:
The handsome young fellow who’s trying to rescue you from a hideous fate is never wrong. Not even if he says the sky is purple and made of hedgehogs. (will being ridiculous)

There’s plenty of sense in nonsense sometimes, if you wish to look for it.

Will looked horrified. "What kind of monster could possibly hate chocolate?
